Fairhope High School Outstanding Seniors For November 2021

Fairhope High School’s Outstanding Seniors For November 2021 recently were recognized by the Point Clear Rotary Club.  They are Nyla Duffy, captain of the soccer team; Guidance Counselor Nicole White, the faulty pat-on-the-back recipient; and Leonard “Tre” Hawkins, football player.  Back row is Rotarian Gerry Carley and event coordinator Elaine Thomas.

Point Clear Rotary Vice President David Lewis welcomed retired Army Special Forces officer Robert Kirila to the December 16th meeting. With more than a quarter century of service, Kirila developed a remarkably unique portfolio of experience in Afghanistan, Iraq and South America in the fight against ISIS along with assignments for Congress and the State Department, among many others too numerous to list  Kirila and his family live in Northwest Florida.

Sporting Clays Fall Classic is Big Success!

The Point Clear Rotary Club’s 9th annual Sporting Clays Fall Classic was a tremendous success.  Great shooting, great food, and great fellowship were hallmarks of the event.  Early calculations indicate that the Club earned more than $12k to support our charitable giving.  Chairs Rod Platt, Skip Jones, and Craig Nelson thank all Rotarians who participated.  Congratulations to all of us.

The winning team was led by Honorary Point Clear Rotarian Dick “Dead-eye” Stewart, for the second consecutive year.  High score shooter was Chris Rupell.

Oct 25 Speaker: Lt.Col. Andrew Yoder

Guest Speaker on Thursday, Oct 25, 2018, was Lt.Col Andrew Yoder, Deputy Commander , US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. Lt.Col Yoder spoke on the mission and structure of the Mobile District of the Corps of Engineers. He was the guest of Rotarian Jim Delapp.

 

A Break with Tradition: Steak Cook Off Grand Champion!

The Point Clear Rotary Club’s cooking team won the 2018 Fairhope Rotary Club’s Steak Cook Off Grand Champions Award at the cook off event held recently in downtown Fairhope. As the winner of this newly sanctioned World Food Championship event, the Point Clear Club received a golden ticket invitation to participate in the 2018 World Food Championship which will be held in Orange Beach later this summer. Receiving the award is team captain John Matus and President-elect Jay Weber.

2018 Silver Spoon First Place Award from the Point Clear Rotary Club’s Taste Of Rotary

Half Shell Oyster House received the 2018 Silver Spoon First Place Award from the Point Clear Rotary Club’s Taste Of Rotary recent event.  Craig Murdock and Robert McQuitery accept the award from Co-Chairman John Matus.  Half Shell Oyster House offered its Char Butter and Orleans Chargrilled oyster specialty.  Taste Of Rotary is the primary fundraiser of the Point Clear Club and it benefits the Rotary Youth Club, scholarships and other local non-profits.

First place winners in the Point Clear Rotary Club’s recent 2017 Sporting

Clays Classic was the team that consisted of Dick Stewart, Danny Powell, Rod Clement and Dave Darnell (not pictured).

The event helps support the club’s contributions to the Point Clear-Fairhope Rotary Youth Club and other non-profits that the club helps sponsor.  The club now meets at the Sweetwater Café at the Colony every Thursday morning.    (Photo by Roger Ahrens).
